To Cuttyhunk and Back Again

Whaling City Rowing is planning a fundraising row to Cuttyhunk from the Slocum River next year on June 8th 2019. A portion of the funds will go to Save Buzzards Bay, as a way to thank them for all they have done for the environment as well as the community. Stay tuned for the sign up.

This is will be a full day commitment. All participants will depart Pope's Island Marina (PIM) by 7:00am and return around 5:00-6:00pm. The distance between the Lloyd Center and Cuttyhunk is roughly 9 miles; depending on boat speed, each crossing is likely to take 3-4 hours. Even if you row the out-bound morning leg to Cuttyhunk, you will not be back to New Bedford until early evening.

If forecast weather conditions for the row are questionable, the Organizing Committee will make a final Go/No-Go decision by 4:00pm, Friday 8 June (Rain Date: Sunday, June 10).

The Float Plan involves two whaleboats, accompanied by three support vessels (two sailboats and one powerboat).

Rowing crews will be car-pooled from PIM to the Lloyd Center. Support vessels will transport to Cuttyhunk the return-leg rowing crew, and bring back to New Bedford those who rowed the out-bound leg. We plan a brief 30-minute layover in Cuttyhunk to change rowing crews.

Once the crews have all returned to PIM, there will be a celebratory BBQ for the days participants.

MINIMUM fund raising amount of $65 per seat, with a prize for the top fundraiser.

If you're interested in rowing round trip, please add RT to your sign up, but note that it does require a minimum of $130 minimum fund raising.
