2009 SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM
YOUTH WHALEBOAT ROWING
Thursdays, 6-7 PM
Whaling City Rowing is continuing to offer its youth rowing program for children ages 13-17. Participants will learn how to row replica James Beetle whaleboats, and receive lessons on basic boating safety and the maritime heritage and environmental issues of New Bedford harbor. The program takes place at Pope’s Island Marina on Thursdays from 6pm to 7pm, July 16th through August 20th. The fee for the summer-long program is $25 per child for the six week program. Scholarships are available for those who meet the income guidelines. No prior rowing experience is required.
For Whom: Boys and girls ages 14– 18
Class Content: Instruction in whaleboat rowing, boat handling skills, and boating safety. When the weather does not permit rowing the program will be cancelled for the day. We provide life-vests, learning materials, and caring adult coaches.

Clothing: Your child must be prepared with appropriate clothing for outdoor activity, including hats, waterproof shoes or water sandals, and sun-screen. In colder weather we suggest many layers including a fleece layer and a windbreak fabric.
Transportation: All participants must provide their own transportation. Car-pooling may be available, please inquire.
